As I sit here among the, shall we say disorganized, trappings of writerly notes, ideas, screwed up balls of paper and curled up post-its listening to Bowling for Soup I glance towards my laptop's clock. Normally I would care if I saw what I do now, panicking about being overtired at work or sleeping in my dinner.
Its 12:24am - lookie! A whole new day has begun!
Am I doing anything constructive right now? Yes! Frightened by that? You should be!
I'm a self-confessed night owl. Funny as it may sound, my best ideas tend to come to me late at night and - in the best traditions of the writer - those ideas must find their way onto paper before sleep may commence! Otherwise the ideas die and nobody even remembers to attend its funeral.
What time of day is best for your ideas and inspiration?
All day. I grab hopings of ideas from everything and like you if i dont put them down somewhere they are swept away on the winds of forgetfulness.
ReplyDeleteThough, very few of those ideas actually make it!
I was lying in bed the other day just about to drop off when an idea came to me that seemed genius at the time. Now, I am shuddering at the thought of attempting it because it doenst seem as simple as it did then.
When do my ideas come fast and best? Only when I stop thinking about everything else, (walking, driving, etc, are best times)
ReplyDeleteAnd Emmie Bear, I can totally relate, most of my "simple genius" ideas are horrifying nightmare constructs on second take. Still good ideas, but frightening to contemplate making them happen...
