Revision - thou art a fickle lady...

For hours you have been stuck in that mangy old rust-bucket you call the family car. The Air Conditioning broke ten minutes into the ride. It's hot. The children are bored and asking 'are we nearly there yet?' every thirty seconds and the radio is playing nothing but garbage.

And then, finally, when all hope of ever reaching your destination seemed lost. The sign leaps out at you, telling you the long, painful journey is finally about to be over.

Good thing too. Your bum feels like it is no longer there and God help the person who tries to reach the bathroom before you...

Revision feels a lot like that long road trip which seems to never end. Constantly you're running your first novel over in your mind, finding faults and thinking of ways to fix them. Yet somehow, despite all of your fixing and tuning and polishing and crying, screaming, moaning and more crying there always seems to be something else wrong, something you missed.

Until one day the glorious moment arrives when you shout "EUREKA!!!" at the top of your lungs. The epiphany has arrived! Now you shall surely triumph and get that all important Agent's interest!

That is, until something else comes up that needs fixing...

Who else here is working on their first and feels the same way! Tell Mister Geek your tales of lengthy travels!
