This week in Sci-Fi 21-06-11

It is an exciting week in Television and Movie Land Sci-Fi fans!

'Falling Skies', a new Alien Invasion TV Series starring Noah Wyle and Produced by the mighty Steven Spielberg, occupied the small screen on the 19th. Hotly anticipated, as most things in which Spielberg is involved tend to be, the show follows an Academic who forced to take up arms and protect his family in the wake of an invasion by aliens called 'Skitters', a cross between your classic Insectoid and Reptilian aliens who have drummed up the devious strategy of booby-trapping every source of resources a resistance movement would use!

I haven't yet had a chance to catch the season premiere myself - and part of me wonders if I should rush to fix that. After the disappointment I suffered at the hands of 'V', 'Skyline' and 'Battle: Los Angeles' I'm a little apprehensive about a new addition to the Invasion genre coming out of Hollywood.

Of course, this would not be a geeky Blog entry about what's going on in the world if I didn't mention the release of 'The Green Lantern' on the silver screen. So far the reviews have been a little mixed so if anyone has seen this movie, please tell me what you thought of it in the comments box below.

The comic world sees the return of 'Star Trek', with a series of new comic-books which explore the alternate timeline created by the 2009 blockbuster movie! Roberto Orci, one of the writers behind the movie, is pioneering this venture and promises to bring us a mixture of re-tellings of classic episodes in the new timeline coupled with a build-up to the next Trek movie. I have my misgivings about re-telling old episodes from the Original Series, but we'll have to see how that one plays out I guess.

Star Trek #1 is due out in September.

And that folks is the week so far in Sci-Fi!
